Chwała Tobie, Szatanie, cześć na wysokościach
Nieba, gdzie królowałeś, chwała na głębokościach
Piekła, gdzie zwyciężony, trwasz w dumnym milczeniu!
Uczyń niechaj ma dusza z Tobą spocznie w cieniu
Drzewa Wiedzy, gdy swoje konary rozwinie,
Jak sklepienie kościoła, który nie przeminie.

Hi, SwissBianco.

I would like to ask you, why the new OH knives (such like M3, MW3 or MWCH) got a little rounded tip of the blade, not a pointed? What is the reason? What's the use of it? I'll be grateful for your answer.

Best regards.
Martin.

the verry point?

its an manufacturing thing, the blades are stamped, heattreated, flat and bevel grounded, stonewashed and sharpened - the point is rounded off by stonewashing, the sharpening still leave it an tiny bit round but after an couple sharpenings its complete pointy.

found this nice video, swissgerman languise, show inside the factory, an marvel: http://www.sf.tv/var/videoplayer.php?videourl=http%3A%2F%2Freal.sri.ch%2Framgen%2Fsfdrs%2Fchak%2F2006%2Fchak_07312006.rm%3Fstart%3D0%3A08%3A48.121%26amp%3Bend%3D0%3A24%3A13.871

Thanks alot for the explanation, SwissBianco. I appreciate it!
Yeah, you're absolutely right - after a few sharpenings the tip will be pointed. I confirm it.

By the way: Thank you for your outstanding, extraordinary projects and a lot of the good work. That's impressive. Keep it up!

Greetings.
Martin.

swissbianco

thanks, without the help of mr elsener (victorinox) and mr hug (wenger) it would not be possible. they let me do it and see the benefits in make you (and me too) happy. we do it with the heart and i think that the work shows.

the polished like finish on the vic stainless steel tools, blades, screwdrivers etc etc is made not by polishing in usual manner, its made by vibro-stonewashing them in an bigger number of steps, different ceramic stones and else that they look that nice on the surface - the tradeback is that sharp corners like you mention the blade point are rounded an bit too, by using that process.

the old swiss army knives, made in an different process without using that had real sharp pointy blades.
